چکیده

Explaining the causes of infeasibility of Boolean formulas has many practical applications in various fields. A small unsatisfiable subformula provides a succinct explanation of infeasibility and is valuable for applications. In recent years finding unsatisfiable subformulas has been addressed frequently by research works, mostly based on the SAT solvers with DPLL backtrack-search algorithm. However little attention has been concentrated on extraction of unsatisfiable subformulas using incomplete methods. In this paper, we present the definitions of refutation proof and refutation parsing graph, and then propose a resolutionbased local search algorithm to track unsatisfiable subformulas according to the reduced refutation proof of a formula. This approach directly constructs the resolution sequences for proving unsatisfiability with a local search procedure, and then recursively derives unsatisfiable subformulas from the resolve traces. We report and analyze the experimental results on well-known and randomly generated benchmarks.

Refutation of random constraint satisfaction problems using the sum of squares proof system

Given a k-ary predicate P, a random instance of a constraint satisfaction problem with predicate P (CSP(P)) is a set of m constraints on n variables. Each constraint is P applied to k random literals. Such an instance is unsatisfiable with high probability when m >> n. Refutation is certifying that a given randomly chosen instance is unsatisfiable. This task has applications in cryptography, ha...

Minimum Witnesses for Unsatisfiable 2CNFs

We consider the problem of finding the smallest proof of unsatisfiability of a 2CNF formula. In particular, we look at Resolution refutations and at minimum unsatisfiable subsets of the clauses of the CNF. We give a characterization of minimum tree-like Resolution refutations that explains why, to find them, it is not sufficient to find shortest paths in the implication graph of the CNF. The ch...

On Computing Minimum Unsatisfiable Cores

Certifying a SAT solver for unsatisfiable instances is a computationally hard problem. Nevertheless, in the utilization of SAT in industrial settings, one often needs to be able to generate unsatisfiability proofs, either to guarantee the correctness of the SAT solver or as part of the utilization of SAT in some applications (e.g. in model checking). As part of the process of generating unsatis...

φ φ φ φ φ φ k From Max - SAT to Min - UNSAT : Insights and Applications

This report describes a strong connection between maximum satisfiability and minimally-unsatisfiable subfor-mulas of any constraint system, as well as techniques for exploiting it. Focusing on CNF formulas, we explore this relationship and present novel algorithms for extracting minimally-unsatisfiable subformulas, including one that finds all such subformulas. We present experimental results s...
